Having some fun on April Fools' Day!

Calling all tricksters... it's time for the funniest day of the year! A chance to have a little fun playing a trick on your kids or have even more fun teaming up with them to play a joke on someone else.

April Fool jokes, when done in a fun and lighthearted way, can teach kids some valuable life lessons. Jokes and tricks can show kids how to enjoy a sense of humour, be able to laugh at themselves, and not take everything too seriously. They can help build resilience and help to handle unexpected surprises in life with a smile.

PROMOTING CREATIVITY

Planning and pulling off jokes (or figuring out if the joke's on them) encourages kids to think creatively. It’s a fun way to engage their problem-solving skills.

Plus it encourages fun and laughter plus shows them a more silly side to adults we might not always have on show. When jokes are done in a positive, inclusive, and respectful way, they teach kids that humour is a great way to connect with others and to enjoy the unexpected!

TEACHING BOUNDARIES

By being on the receiving and giving end of pranks, kids learn what’s funny versus what might be mean or hurtful. They begin to understand the importance of considering others' feelings when joking around.

WE ALL LOVE FACTS

All over the world, April Fools' Day is celebrated on 1st April but no one really knows how the tradition of playing jokes started but it has been dated back to an Ancient Roman festival called Hilaria. Hilaria-ous!?

It might seem like a day to abandon all rules but, like most traditions, it has its own superstitions and you must make sure your jokes are played by midday otherwise the joke's on you!

In 1957 the BBC released a fake documentary which showed farmers in Switzerland harvesting pasta from 'spaghetti trees'! The documentary can still be watched online today!

LEARNING ADAPTABILITY

When faced with a harmless joke, kids have to react quickly and adapt. Whether it’s figuring out why the remote won’t work or why their juice has turned to jelly, they get a chance to practice problem-solving which is always a good thing.

You can have a lot of fun with food colouring!

Whether you go big or do nothing at all, Happy April Fools' to you all. Just remember to be extra vigilant and pay extra attention to anything you may see or read as it may not be what it seems and any jokes may just end up as an answer in The Book of You - 'What's the funniest thing that has happened this year?'
