Why Inclusivity Is at the Heart of Colour Chronicles

Inclusivity isn’t an add-on for Colour Chronicles.

It’s where it all began.

When I first created The Book of You, I couldn’t find anything that truly felt right. So many memory books made quiet assumptions — about family structure, milestones, and what a childhood should look like.

And the more I thought about it, the more I realised:

That doesn’t reflect real life.

Every Family Tells a Different Story

No two families are the same.

Some are big, some small.
Some are traditional, some not.
Some journeys into parenthood are straightforward, others are anything but.

And childhood itself doesn’t follow a perfect script either.

Some milestones happen.
Some don’t.
Some look completely different to what you imagined.

But all of it is still meaningful.
All of it is still worth remembering.

Designing Without Assumptions

That’s why inclusivity sits at the core of every Colour Chronicles book.

Rather than telling you what your story should be, the books are designed to simply hold it.

You’ll find:

  • Gentle, open-ended prompts
  • Flexible wording that works for every family
  • Space to interpret moments in your own way

Even small details — like “Who I am to you” at the top of a page — are there so anyone can define their role in a child’s life, in their own words.

Because memory-making should feel like it belongs to you.

Memory-Making Without Pressure

Inclusivity also means removing judgement.

There’s no “right” way to fill in these books.
No expectation to have done everything.
No pressure to capture every milestone.

Just space to write what matters.

To capture what did happen — not what didn’t.

To reflect your version of family life, in all its beautiful, messy, real forms.

Because Every Story Deserves to Be Kept

At its heart, Colour Chronicles is built on one simple belief:

Every child’s story matters.
Every family deserves to feel seen.
Every memory is worth keeping.

Exactly as it is.
