Creating Captivating Visuals for Colour Chronicles: Tips on how to Photograph and Film Our Baby and Childhood Journals!

Welcome to our guide on crafting captivating photos and videos for Colour Chronicles!

We're excited to help you showcase the beauty of our baby and childhood journals through stunning imagery. With each photo or video selected for use, you'll not only contribute to Colour Chronicles' visual storytelling but you may even feature on our social media.

Let's explore how to capture these precious moments in a way that delights and inspires.

Equipment:

Camera: Ensure your camera, whether it's a smartphone or DSLR, is capable of capturing high-quality images and videos.

Tripod: Use a tripod to stabilise your camera, particularly for videos or close-up photography, to maintain steady shots.

Lighting: Utilise natural or soft artificial light to enhance the colours and details of the books, ensuring true-to-life colours. Incorporate relevant props like colourful toys or decorative elements to enhance the aesthetic appeal.

Please film in landscape where possible but don't worry if not.

Setting Up & Shooting:

Background & Arrangement: Choose backgrounds that complement the vibrant colours and designs of the journals or opt for a plain background for contrast. Place the journals on a clean, clutter-free surface to ensure they remain the focal point of the images and videos.

Experimentation & Composition: Explore different compositions and angles to capture visually engaging shots that highlight the unique features of the journals. Verbally explain what you love about the books and their contents during video recordings.

For interview style videos, please ask the questions and let your little one answer any way they like, some of the best videos are toddlers being silly and playing up for the camera!

Lighting & Editing:

Natural Light & Artificial Lighting: Utilise natural light whenever possible for a soft, flattering glow that accentuates the colours of the journals. Position the journals near windows to maximise natural light when shooting indoors. Use artificial lighting sources to supplement or enhance natural light, ensuring even illumination across the scene.

Editing: Don't worry about editing or adding background music; please send in your videos as they are. We’ll edit them and send back for approval before using them.
